The Smithsonian’s Punta Culebra Nature Center on the Amador Causeway has a new hands-on, modern marine exhibit.

Designed by architect Patrick Dillon, the project is a series of rocky pools simulating the native habitat of marine species from both Panama’s Pacific and Caribbean coasts.  The $250,000 touch pool project took three years to plan and two years to build.

The Punta Culebra Nature Center is an open-air museum focusing mainly on marine science and education, conservation and interpretation of marine coastal environments.
