Panama’s First Lady and wife of President Martinelli, Marta Linares de Martinelli, flew to Denver yesterday to attend Project C.U.R.E.’s 5th Annual First Ladies’ Luncheon.

This year, the Commission on Urgent Relief and Equipment’s project is to gather funds to support the hospitals in Panama’s most vulnerable areas.  In past years, the luncheons have fundraised for the first ladies of El Salvador, Mexico, Belize and Ghana.

On Wednesday, Linares de Martinelli will give a speech about the urgent needs of hospitals in Panama’s indigenous communities.  The goal for the 2010 First Ladies’ Luncheon is to raise enough money to deliver more than $3 million in medical supplies and equipment to hospitals and clinics in Panama.  Around 1,800 Colorado business and community leaders are expected to attend.

Meanwhile, the first lady’s husband will be in El Salvador for the Central American Integration System meeting addressing issues such as Honduras, regional security, vulnerability to national disasters and commercial exchange.
