Astros Bench Carlos Lee for Missing Workout
Panamanian left fielder Carlos Lee was held out of the Houston Astros’ lineup today against the Pittburgh Pirates because he missed the team’s workout on Thursday.
Lee explained that he missed the voluntary workout and team charter to Pittsburgh because the license of the pilot who was to fly him back to Houston from Panama expired on Wednesday, and the FAA grounded his flight.
“I’m not better than anybody else, just one of those things that could happen to anybody,” a disappointed Lee said.
Carlos Aniel Lee was born in Aguadulce and signed a six-year $100 million contract with the Astros in 2006. His nickname is El Caballo which means The Horse, and he has a fan club called Los Caballitos or Little Horses.
The Astros beat the Pirates 5 to 2.
