Mariano Rivera Stays with Yankees
Panamanian pitcher Mariano Rivera agreed to two more seasons with the New York Yankees for $30 million.
“I wanted two years,” the 41-year-old Rivera told the New York Daily News. “That will be fine. I think maybe that might be the last two years.”
The contract won’t be announced by the Yankees until Rivera has his physical either Monday or Tuesday.
Rivera – also known as Mo, Super Mariano and The Sandman – was signed by the New York Yankees as an amateur free agent in 1990 and debuted May 23, 1995. He has a career 559 saves, second only to Trevor Hoffman with 601, also still active, on the all-time saves leaders list.
