Belly Button of the Americas Without Water for Two Days
Approximately 10,000 people in city of Penonome, also known as the Belly Button of the Americas, have been without potable water for the last 48 hours.
Elsy Hernandez, Director of the National Institute of Aqueducts and Sewage Systems in the Province of Cocle, said that the Penonome treatment plant’s main pump suffered severe damage. Therefore, Institute personnel had to disarm the pump before traveling to Panama City to pick up the necessary pieces to fix it.
If all goes according to plan, water should start flowing after the pump is fixed this afternoon, Friday.
