This Week in Panama Murders

Ten people were killed this week by either firearm, knife, machete or blunt instrument in Panama.

La Critica put together a list:

On November 7, Juan Miguel Ramos, age 27, was stabbed 20 times in Valle del Sol, Arraijan District; Borbua Armando Santiago, age 23, was shot twice from a moving car at 10 p.m. on 5th Street in Colon.

On November 8, Daysi Yarisel James was beaten to death with a baseball bat. Her children were found in her New Tocumen residence.

On November 9, Existo Barrios Acosta, age 24, was shot in the left shoulder in Sector 30 of Veranillo.

On November 10, Carlos Ruiz, age 28, was stabbed to death in Nueva Libia de Alcalde Diaz at 2:30 a.m; Miguel Angel Abrego Quintero, age 48, was shot 17 times in La Toscana, Juan Diaz.

On November 11, Marcos Roberto Nunez was shot five times in a drive-by shooting in Paraiso. He was on house arrest and wearing an electronic bracelet at the time of his death; Jonathan Mendez Tenorio was shot 10 times in the thorax in Paraiso.  He was also wearing an electronic bracelet; Enilda Quintero, age 47, was hacked to death by her former partner in the province of Chiriqui.

On November 12, An unidentified victim was found dead in the bushes in Cabuyita de Tocumen.

    Sounds like things are heating up a bit. As ex-pats, should we be worried for our personal safety?
