Preparing for Holiday Garbage

The holidays are just around the corner and the trash authority is taking measures to deal with the 40 percent increase of Panama garbage output expected during this festive time.

To this end, Director of the Panama’s municipal urban and residential waste management department, Harmodio Montaner, has suspended year-end vacations for garbage collection workers so that they will be available for street cleaning.

Montaner also mentioned that citizens can collaborate in keeping the streets clean by not throwing trash wherever they want to and by paying their waste collection taxes.

At present, only 48 percent of users pay this tax, but Montaner insists that Panamanians need to be responsible.

La Prensa reports.

So it’ll be a multi-colored, synthetic Christmas in Panama this year. Trash, instead of snow.
