More Money for Dirty Bay
The Andean Development Corporation (CAF) approved a $120 million loan for the project to clean up the filthy Bay of Panama.
The project called “Proyecto de Saneamiento de la Ciudad y Bahía de Panamá,” is looking to redress the contamination the city poured into its waters as a result of uncontrolled urban growth and uncontrolled sewage.
The project involves building 84 miles of sewers, a sewage treatment plant and an intercepting tunnel. It will require a total of $538 million, of which 22% is financed by CAF, 11% by the government and 67% through other financing sources like the Inter-American Development Bank.
