The District Attorney’s office is investigating an international human trafficking network that may involve Panamanian police and immigration officers.

The network allegedly used Tocumen International Airport and the Immigration office to send Chinese nationals to the United States and Canada with falsified Panamanian visas, according to Public Ministry sources.

Authorities met Monday to discuss how best to dismantle this network, La Prensa reports.

The 2010 United States Trafficking in Persons Report listed Panama as a Tier 2 Watch List country. Panama objected saying it is a leader in fighting human trafficking in region.
