Australia Takes Surfing Gold
The Australian team won gold at the ISA World Masters Surf Championship, finishing up a week of heavy surf competition on Panama’s Santa Catalina beach.
The team beat out the reigning South African team in a championship that featured 21 countries with 107 of the best 35-and-older surfers in the world.
Panamanian surfer Kenneth Myers took home the bronze medal in the over-50 category, and Pucha Garcia, representing Panama, finished among the six best female surfers.
Panama ranked ninth overall, behind Australia, South Africa, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Peru, Venezuela, Argentina and France.
And, President Ricardo Martinelli, Vice President Juan Carlos Varela, Minister of Tourism Salomon Shamah and Minister of Economy Alberto Vallarino were on hand for the medals ceremony.
