Trinidad and Tobago Tennis Team Arrives to Panama for Davis Cup
The Trinidad and Tobago Davis Cup team touched down in Panama yesterday to prepare for the Davis Cup America Zone Group IV qualifier.
The round-robin competition does not begin until June 28, but the Trinidad and Tobago Tennis Association thought it best the team have some time to acclimate to the conditions on the ground.
They will compete against Barbados, Honduras, the U.S. Virgin Islands and host-country Panama. Matches will be played on the red clay courts of the Centro Fred Maduro in Curundu from June 28 to July 4. The top two countries advance to Americas Zone Group III.
At the levels below the World Group, the Davis Cup nations compete in Zonal Competitions, which are split into three zones: the Americas Zone, the Asia/Oceania Zone and the Europe/Africa Zone. In each zone there are four groups, Group I being the highest and Group IV the lowest.
The Davis Cup World Group quarterfinals will be played from July 9 to 11: France v. Spain, Russia v. Argentina, Croatia v. Serbia and Chile v. Czech Republic.
