New V-Strom Motorcycles for Presidential Motorcade

Panama’s Institutional Protection Service will have six new V-Strom Suzuki motorcycles by the end of the month.

Each V-Strom is priced at $11,000 and will be painted white and accessorized in Colombia to Presidential motorcade standards – including protectors, hard saddle bags and sirens – arriving by June 22, a street source confirmed.

Word on the street also indicates that the new bikes are part of the preparations for the Central American Integration System (SICA) Summit on June 29 and 30 as Panama gears up to receive important heads of state.

If all goes according to plan, the guest list will include SICA member countries – Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama, as well as the associate Dominican Republic. Felipe Calderon of Mexico, Alvaro Uribe of Colombia, Lee Myung-bak of South Korea and the greatly anticipated Silvio Berlusconi of Italy will also be in attendance.

The V-Strom bikes replace the less versatile Suzuki GS 750 and GS 500 models currently in use.

I really appreciate the diversity of vehicles used by Panama’s police force. Let’s see, to begin there are pedestrian police, and then there are bicycles, there are the new Segways, which in their sheer superficial absurdity, is particular fitting for Panama City. After that comes the Scooters, then there’s the normal sedan police cars, there’s the undercover Prado’s, there are golf carts, vans (tourism police), the Hilux, the old Motorcycles, and now the new ones. I’m surely leaving 4 or 5 other vehicle models out. But yeah! Way to go Panama City! Lets hear it for creativity!
