Today, the Second Superior Court sentenced Panamanian boxer Alfonso “Hurricane” Mosquera to 40 months in a prison cell for inflicting deadly injuries to his partner.

The authorities came to blame him for the August 5, 2008 beating of Luz Torres, which sent her to Santo Thomas hospital and into a coma before she succumbed to her internal injuries four days later.

One time Mosquera could have been the champion of the world.  In December, 2007, the now 28-years-old boxer fought Canadian Joachim Alcine for the World Boxing Association’s super welterweight title and lost.

Panama’s 20 year maximum sentence for intentional murder hasn’t been an adequate deterrent. . . so they choose to protect their women from abuse and country from increased high crime of murder with a diminished inappropriate 3 year sentence.

Begs the question of who’s behind this. . . surely not the Boxing Comission!
