Cesar Augusto Gomez Ruiloba, Panama’s Consul General in Trinidad and Tobago, allegedly illegally collected two salaries from the State.

Corruption Czar Fernando Nunez Fabrega says the official must return $214,000 in travel expenses and salary to the National Treasury and also requested that he be suspended without pay from both positions.

Former President Martin Torrijos appointed Gomez as consul in 2008, but Fabrega says Gomez simultaneously charged $3,345 a month as a Panama Canal Authority quality control specialist, La Critica Reports.

Meanwhile, Gomez says that it can be verified that he only receives payment for his work with the Canal Authority and travel expenses from the Ministry of Foreign Relations.  Gomez is also the brother of Ana Matilda Gomez, the separated attorney general who the State is investigating for corruption..

In somewhat related news, the Trinidad and Tobago tennis team is in town for the Americas Zone Davis Cup qualifiers.
