A total of 593 pounds of pork meat of suspicious origin were confiscated and destroyed in Chitre by the Province of Herrera’s health authorities.

Juan Marcelino Peralta, Chief of the Food Protection and Zoonosis Section said the meat was not registered to an authorized slaughterhouse.

“This pork meat was deposited in blue tanks and their owner confessed that the animal was sacrificed in a pigpen without sanitary measures,” said Peralta.

He added that clandestine sales not only encourage clandestine sales but also evasion of municipal taxes on animal sacrifice.

La Prensa reports.
