Taxi Service Suspended to Red Zones
After the murder of the eighth taxi driver this year, the National Syndicate of Taxi Drivers will be restricting their routes until the National Police takes some action.
Among the no-go red zones are Samaria, Torrijos Carter, Nueva Libia, Mano de Piedra, Cerro Cocobolo, Roberto Duran and Paraiso.
“We are going to leave passengers in the main street until the National Police guarantees the safety of our drivers,” said Rafael Reyes, President of the National Syndicate of Taxi Drivers. ”We don’t want any more dead.”
The Syndicate would like to see the intensification of police rounds, an increase in roadblocks and for police to check not only taxi drivers but also passengers, La Critica reports.
