Shootout on the Cinta Costera
Around 1 p.m. yesterday afternoon, a gang member with a long-range weapon shot at two men traveling in a Mitsubishi Lancer along the Cinta Costera, the coastal strip and main thoroughfare along the Bay of Panama.
A shootout ensued.
Félix Alberto Sarabia Jiménez, age 26 and known by the alias “Cholo Cojo,” was shot in the abdomen and pursued his attackers with a gun on foot. In the exchange, a stray bullet caught bus passenger Javier Antonio Alvarado in the back.
Cholo Cojo’s fellow rider, Anor Garcia, age 19, was hit four times. The attackers fled the scene and the shooting victims were taken to the hospital. Twenty-one shells were found in the area, and 16 lodged in the car.
Differences between rival gangs of Santa Ana and El Chorillo are suspected as the motivation for the shootout, La Critica reports.
