There are petroleum deposits ready for exploitation in Panama’s Darien jungle, confirms President Martinelli.

“Even if you don’t believe it, I am going to say something that I shouldn’t say,” said Martinelli.  ”In Panama, there is petroleum in the Darien area.  We are making the studies and we have confirmed that the same Colombian veins arrive to Panama.”

The president also said that his government would propel responsible mining and petrol exploitation that “provides dividends to the State, respects the environment and has an orderly development.”

Martinelli says he will visit an unspecified location where fuel is coming to the surface.

“I have to see it with my own eyes,” he said.
