Garbage Alert as Fly Season Approaches

The month of May and rainy season are right around the corner, and garbage continues to pile up in Panama streets.

In less than a month, it is fly proliferation season, explained General Secretary of the Health Ministry Felix Bonilla, and the accumulation of trash increases the presence and transmission of illnesses.

Flies are responsible for such illnesses as gastric, intestinal and skin disorders, transmitted by fly feet, hair and blood.

Authorities are hoping to solve the problem before the rains come.  Yesterday was World Health Day.

Well, the bridges are going to need to be reliable in order to transport all the trash to a dump site outside the city. First things first.

Maybe the trash can be used as cheap fill for the many new sub-urban sprawl ghettos proliferating around the city.

Last time I checked, Panama was a conscientious objector when it came to Health Day.
