Ex-President Travels to Peru Because He Wants To
When asked by reporters why he is traveling to Peru, ex-President Ernesto Perez Balladares, who is under investigation for money laundering said: ”Because I want to. What do you think about that?”
The ex-president arrived to Tocumen International Airport around 9 a.m. yesterday in a blue Lexus, along with his wife and lawyer. Upon entering the terminal, he ran into another ex-president, Martin Torrijos, who was on his way back from a meeting in Buenos Aires, Argentina. They hugged and Torrijos wished Perez Balladares luck.
Upon his arrival to Lima’s Jorge Chavez International Airport, Perez Balladares told EFE news that he had no intention of seeking political asylum in Peru.
“I came for personal reasons, on a visit, and to do a little tourism,” he said. He was granted permission to travel on April 9th and is due back on April 15th at 10:30 a.m.
