Panama-US Free Trade Agreement May Have to Wait
It looks like midterm elections and a full domestic agenda may prevent 2010 from being the year in which the United States ratifies the Free Trade Agreement with Panama.
This does not mean that the treaty will not one day be approved, U.S. Senator Christopher Dodd said during his visit to Panama this week.
Last month, U.S. President Barack Obama spoke about strengthening trade with Colombia, Panama and South Korea in his State of the Union address as a way of boosting U.S. exports.
Dodd did also say, however, that Panama must pay attention to certain things like respecting legal security and the separation between executive and judiciary powers.
