Panama and Israeli Unmanned Aerial Vehicles
Panama security forces will soon test the Heron Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, developed by Israel Aerospace Industries, according the Jerusalem Post.
The drone, designed for intelligence gathering and surveillance, would be used in counter-drug operations as well as border security in Panama.
Brazil is prepared to purchase $350 million-worth of Heron UAVs in preparation for the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics. Current UAV operators include Canada, Germany, India, Turkey, Australia and the United States Southern Command.
The Heron can fly for two days at 30,000 feet without refueling in any weather conditions while carrying up to a 551 pound payload. Heron is also capable of target acquisition and artillery adjustment.
